Since 1596, owners of Kelme
Estate.
Mikolaj and Jan Gruzewscy - both educated in
Holland and France.
Jerzy Gruzewski (1592-1651) - Hetman Koronny
(Commander in Chief of Lithuanian/Polish
military forces). In ~1673 Jakub Gruzewski
married Ana Potocki. Family ties with Polish
noble families: Oginski, Polubinski, Sapieha,
and Duke Wlodzimierz the Great. Juliusz
Gruzewski was a leader of "Listopadowe"
Uprising against Russian occupation (1830),
later became an Ambassador to Switzerland.
Co-founded the "Czaper i Spolka" watch
company. Later changed its name to
Patek-Philippe watch manufacturing company,
Geneva, Switzerland
(Juliusz - son of Baroness Dorota von
Osten-Sacken). Kelme Estate exists today as a
regional museum
in Lithuania.
